The chair... I'm sure I'm not the only one that pretty much despises it and gets somewhat anxious just thinking about having to sit on it.
To this day I can't figure out if it's the sound of the suction straw, the scent of the disinfectant spray they use to clean the room, the bright light shining on my face or the torturous equipment used to check, poke, scrape...the list goes on.
All these elements experienced while sitting on it, make the chair the least desirable place to be for me and for a whole bunch of other people. Yes, you guessed right- It's the chair at the dental office. Yikes!
The thing about it is that as much I'd like to avoid it, doing so won't do me any good in the long run. It's the total opposite- exposing myself to its discomfort helps me and keeps me from even worse dental torture.
Makes me think of how sometimes we try to avoid situations, hard conversations, even difficult tasks, not realizing that we are not doing ourselves a favor, but instead, we are hindering ourselves from growing and developing more character.
My lesson? Not every uncomfortable situation is a bad situation. Some will benefit me, some will benefit you too.
So Let's face these things and grow. Have that talk, go take care of that pending task, make that appointment, apologize to that friend. You get the point, right?
Let's not end up having to sit on "the chair" longer than we need to. I'm sure there're a lot of other things we'd rather do.
My thoughts....after my dental appointment this morning. :)
