Roots before branches

If any of you watched Glee last week (yes! I am a proud “Gleek”) you were also impacted by the song Rachel sang as she got on the train to Broadway – her dream.  “I must have roots before I can have branches. I must know who I am before I can figure out who I want to become”.  Wow! In this episode she was conflicted because she had looked forward to this dream of being a Broadway star all her life and now that she was headed there, it didn’t feel the way she dreamed it would.  Something was missing.
How often have we tried to shape our lives into something or someone without having taken the time to really look within and figure out who we are first? We are so pressed to prove to the world that we can become all we can be but we have yet to accept who we are because we have yet to know who we are.
Today, I encourage you to take time for you and with you.  To get to know the person behind the dreams and the ideas.  To celebrate where you are right now and to celebrate you.  To dig your roots much deeper, so you can have longer, stronger branches that will then be able to sustain the fruits of your hard work.  Only then will the feeling of reaching your dream be as you always imagined it… epic!
Now, I leave you with the song - Roots before branches.
Hope you enjoy it!

Constant

When everything's changing, shifting and moving, God remains constant.
He's still strong, powerful, merciful, faithful and in complete control.
He never changes.

Laura Cooksey says it best in her song Unshakable...
When faith is silenced by my disbelief
When I tremble in uncertainty
When I am shaken at the core of me you remain
When every hope has crumbled to the ground
My heart is tired but it's crying out

Somehow I hear you whisper through the doubt you remain
Your high on your throne, Lord of Heaven you are in control
King of Ages you will always be Unshakeable
Our hearts will proclaim, you are Holy you will never change
God of wonder you remain Unshakeable
Through generations you've reminded us
of the pow'r in your unfailing love
there's nothing that you haven't overcome, you remain
It's on your word that we'll forever stand
a solid rock amidst the shifting sand
though storms may come Lord we will lift our hands, 'cause you remain
Yesterday, today, and forever you will be the same
Almighty God you reign forever

Change is growth and growth is good so change... is good :)

You Are What You Eat - Yikes!

Have you ever seen that commercial for an eating supplement (which shall remain unnamed) where this kid in a soccer team is actually a french fry? He's running around slower than everyone else because apparently he had french fries before the game. Get it? You are what you eat!

Well, I've been thinking a lot about that phrase, specially since I'm still on the quest to lose some of the pounds I gained while on vacation last month.  You are what you eat...
Now a days it takes a lot of discipline and work to live and eat healthy.  Planning your meals so that you're not making wrong decisions out of hunger and desperation, Making better decisions when eating out, you name it... it's hard! But it truly pays off!

My perspective today is that the same amount of energy and effort we need to put into keeping a healthy diet, we need to put into living a healthy life.  Let me explain...
Just like when we eat the wrong kinds of foods we feel sluggish and heavy and when we eat properly we feel energized and charged, when expose ourselves to things that are not good for us such as conversations or inappropriate settings, we will see the effects in our lives.  On the other hand, when we filter what we expose ourselves to and are intentional about what we're taking in by way of our eyes and our ears, we too see the effect in our lives... a positive one.

"You are what you eat" to me means that what you take in you will become.

So today, I encourage all of us to surround ourselves with things that are good gastronomically, physically, mentally, spiritually and truly we will see the difference.

You are what you eat!

Just a thought~

Decisions, Decisions

Hi guys! I'm seating here blogging this morning and so many possible topics are fighting their way out of me.  Purpose, self worth, timelines, mood swings... what to write about?? And then it hit me: Decisions!

I gotta tell you, life can sometimes throw so many things our way and we are constantly faced with a lot of decisions to make.  Sometimes big ones and other times small ones.  What I love about decisions is that everybody has to make them.  Is one of the few commonalities we all have.

But how do we choose? How do we decide to take a job, buy a house, end a relationship, go back to school, say "yes", say "no", start a family, move away, have a better attitude, forgive, eat better, love better?

I haven't always made the right decisions, but I can tell you that throughout the many decisions I've had to make in my 34 years the one thing that has helped me during the process is asking myself "How would this fit into the bigger picture of my life? How would this help my God given purpose/calling come to life?" Asking myself these questions has many times separated my selfish motives from "purpose".

So today, as you face decisions that may seem very hard to make, I suggest you take the time to ask yourself these questions.  I promise that in the midst of the process you will get clarity to choose.

Just a thought,
Milca
